Check out the Photo Gallery Page for recently added snaps of our annual Gearstones weekend and also of the latest races at York Sports Village.
All returned safe and sound from the annual club trip to Austria last night. A good time was had despite a slight lack of decent snow. Our secretary and treasurer even made it to the track this morning only 9 hours after touching down at the airport! Photos will be uploaded onto the Gallery page over the next few weeks.
It was another busy session today with all available boots and skis in use. (If anyone is thinking of buying their own please see www.rollerski.co.uk -But seek advice from Martin Roscoe before splashing out!)
Back on a windy day in early December, members of YDCCSC had a walk on Alkborough Nature Reserve on the south banks of the Humber. Click on the photo for a bit more info.
It was cold but dry and bright for the first roller ski session of the year at York Sports Village. And how marvellous to see so many new faces! About 20 donned roller skis for the very first time including 4 children, all of whom progressed through the drills and looked like they’d been several times before.
It will be great to have some new members for 2016……
Before Christmas Eve gets into full swing (unless it already has in which case you will be reading this some time next week – hope you had a great Christmas!) , we thought it only right to send a few festive wishes your way.
Our fingers and toes are crossed for lots of the white stuff – these weather people can and do often get it wrong (ever the optimist) – the club will send out info if and when this does happen over the Christmas period. We can all get together and have a little slide and glide…fingers still firmly crossed 🙂
Merry Christmas everyone!
To celebrate a fantastic year of rollerskiing at York Sports Village, the decision to put on a Christmas race with a twist was an easy one to make.
First thing to note is that there will be trackside festive refreshments after the race if the weather holds out – these will move inside if not. A great incentive to have one final blast around the track with friends and family before we finish for 2015.
Second this is a race like no other that has been done here before…a 5km handicap race to allow everyone to cross the line at roughly the same time. It is daring, it is mildly competitive but most of all it is a great opportunity to have lots of fun!
Contact Martin Roscoe for further details and if you would like to take part. firstname.lastname@example.org
What a couple of weeks of changeable weather ! Autumn is firmly upon us but soon we will be looking to Winter with fingers crossed for snow and blue sky days. Before we get to the skiing though, we wanted to let you now about a club walk in North Lincolnshire that we are looking forward to with intrigue and wonder and would love as many members to join us as possible!
Anna Moody will be leading the walk Saturday 5th December and has sent us the October 2015 report of the plethora of wildlife making their home there be it permanently or as a stopover for more far-flung climes. She has advised that December could well be very different but this is surely the charm of nature…? Further details about meeting place and times TBC.
P.S. If you would like a copy of this report to whet your appetite, you will find it sitting in your inbox (it was sent out last Friday to members) or get in touch to find out more!
A select group gathered in the fog at the York Sports Village Cycle track on the first day of November. (Some of the more experienced Yorkshire Dales skiers were enjoying roller skiing in Scotland this weekend- we hope to hear how that went and add some photos and a short report in due course.)
We started with a 3 km race. Those with more experience completed this on classic skis whilst others took to skate skis. This race was won hands down by Miroslav Havelka who completed the 3km in 9 minutes 35 seconds. Tim and Chloe Griffiths did amazing well in their first race coming in at 13, 37 and 14, 54 respectively. Young Will Tomlinson skated with great style and came in at 18, 37, but biggest applause must go to his 6 year old sister Grace who was by far the most improved rollerskier of the day. Grace completed 2 full laps and a short lap in 25 minutes and 10 seconds, a huge leap up from previous events where she has done one lap.
With barely time to catch breath we moved on to the endurance event, with 4 skiers doing 30 minutes and 3 more continuing on to an hour. Again this was won convincingly by Miroslav who completed 24kms in 61 minutes and 4 seconds. Steph Cook was not far behind him in second place overall (First Lady) Steph achieved her goal of breaking the women’s lap record for York Cycle Track by completing 23 laps (23 kms) in 60 minutes and 46 seconds. Well done Steph!!! Third in the one hour event (sounds better than last!!!) was Martin Roscoe who powered round on some old classics and completed 16 laps in 60 minutes and 9 seconds.
So well done to all who took part, especially those entering for the first time.
