Some of us had a super Saturday last week when we joined the Manchester Club for their annual Lancaster to Heysham Roller Ski Tour. We followed the Lune Valley Cycle path to Morcecambe and then followed the prom to Heysham where we had a lovely pub lunch in the sunshine before the return journey. A round trip of about 11 miles.
Enough snow fell last week to enable club members to get out and about on skis. Trips were made to Dalby Forest and some members even skied around their own neighbourhoods. As the usual roller ski lessons were cancelled, we took the opportunity to practise some drills at Temple Newsam in Leeds using club skis.
Despite cold and grey weather, we have seen good numbers of roller skiers on the track since Christmas. All have benefitted from the expert tuition of Martin, Martin and Richard and progress has been made in both classic and skate technique. Frosty conditions on a couple of sessions have meant that those who normally skate have tried classic roller skis. Practising both styles does improve overall technique, so every drill counts.
